The Black Swans, a Midwestern indie-folk quartet, celebrates a shared vinyl release with the local Ukrainian-born singer-songwriter Alina Simone. Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, the Black Swans specialize in sad, fragile songs driven by bandleader Jerry DeCicca’s disarming lyrics. This performance marks their first in New York since the death of Noel Sayre, their talented violist and violinist, last July. Simone, an overtly passionate songwriter, is equally comfortable performing the anthemic Russian songs of Yanka Dyagileva, a Siberian punk icon, as she is singing her own, more haunting, material.
